Kuala Lumpur, 15 August 2022 – Today, we bring to you the ‘People Behind Boost’, a series that gives you a sneak peek at the ambitious group of people that are responsible for the solutions that you see and use daily.
In the first part of this series, we have Ungku Norliza Syazwan Ungku Halmie, the CEO of Boost Life, and a mom of 5 active and energetic children. She is the one in charge of overseeing, managing, and inspiring Boosties to ideate and develop the innovative solutions and attractive rewards that you see on our consumer fintech app.
Ungku Liza started her career in Finance but have always embodied a start-up mindset and an out-of-the-box thinking. Driven by her passion to positively impact the lifestyle of Malaysians through technology, she became one of the co-founding members of Axiata’s digital business arm, to then leading the Product and Marketing team at Boost. After the consolidation of Boost under one umbrella last year, she is now the CEO at Boost Life.
One of her favourite parts about being the CEO of Malaysia’s leading consumer fintech app is combining the analytical and critical thinking skills from her finance background, with her consumer insights from her Product and Marketing experience – where data-driven decisions are optimised when combining these two elements using business sense together with logic to get desirable outcomes for the organisation, when done well.
This enabled her to support the team to ideate and develop innovative solutions that address everyday pain points that simplify the lives of Boost users from automating bill payments, enabling cashless payments for retail and major grocery stores, to creating an interoperable and holistic loyalty program BoostUP that received the Malaysian Technology Excellence Award 2022.
If she’s not in team huddles or meetings, Ungku Liza enjoys the outdoors and you will usually find her engaged in fun physical activities such as cycling, hiking, and scuba diving with family and friends.
Ungku Liza is also a champion of having more women in tech as she believes that diversity fosters innovation. She is a strong believer of this saying: “If you can’t get a seat at the table, build your own.” One other thing she hopes to see is how society breaks the norm in terms of gender roles and responsibilities. She hopes that all women see the value they bring to the table personally and professionally with confidence.
